Definition: Percent of adults who ate fruit and vegetables 5+ times per day.
Why is this important: Fruits and vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, fiber and other substances that are important for good health. Diets with adequate fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of some cancers and other chronic diseases.
Where are we: In 2009 in Spokane County, 22% of adults reported eating the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. The proportion of adults eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables was stable from 2005 to 2009. The proportion of adults eating fruit and vegetables 5 times per day in Spokane County was similar to that of Washington State and the U.S.
