Summary Measures

Indicator: Life Satisfaction (Adults)
 
Definition: Percent of adults that are very satisfied or satisfied with their life.
Why is this important: Life satisfaction, or well-being, is associated with self-perceived health, health behaviors, mental and physical illness and recovery, social connectedness, and productivity.
 
Where are we: In 2009 in Spokane County, 96% of adults reported they were satisfied with their life. The proportion of satisfied adults significantly increased from 2005 to 2009. Spokane County had a rate of satisfied adults similar to that of Washington State in 2009.
 
Health Disparities:
Among adults in Spokane County in 2009:
 
  • Males were more likely to be satisfied with their life than females.
  • Life satisfaction increased as income increased.
 
There was no difference in life satisfaction by age group, race, or education level.
