HIV Prevention, Counseling & Testing Workshop

This 2-day workshop is intended for healthcare providers and counselors working with people with HIV or at risk for HIV. The CDC-based curriculum is designed to assist providers in their work by teaching the skills necessary for effective HIV prevention counseling, testing, and referral.
Note: This workshop does not satisfy the 4-hour or 7-hour basic HIV/AIDS education requirement by the Department of Health for licensure in many healthcare professions.
Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Assist individuals in recognizing their personal HIV risk.
- Motivate individuals toward lowering their risk.
- Discuss HIV risk, disease, and antibody testing.
- Provide post-test counseling for individuals with negative or positive results.
- Arrange for partner notification for sex and needle-sharing partners of individuals testing positive.
- Have a working knowledge of Washington State law regarding HIV testing.
Format
Lectures, audio-visuals, skills practice, discussions and demonstrations. Up to date references and handouts are provided throughout the workshop.

Duration
2-Day Course: 8:00 am–4:00 pm each day.
Refreshments will be provided; lunch is on your own. Participants must be present for the full 2-day period.
