Reproductive Health
Aimed at reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies in Spokane County, the Reproductive Health program includes teen pregnancy prevention, public awareness campaigns, community education and targeted prevention efforts, as part of the Health Promotion division.
Reproductive Health services include:
- Teen Pregnancy Prevention Your Choice, Not Chance (YCNC) is a fun, free program that offers support groups to girls ages 12-16 in Spokane County. Topics include: abstinence, outcomes of sexual activity and pregnancy, self-esteem, goal setting, values, body image, healthy communication, decision-making skills, and substance abuse prevention. Girls also participate in community service projects, field trips, and recreational activities. Call (509) 324-1460.
- Unintended Pregnancy Prevention Nationwide, about three million women experience unintended pregnancies each year. In Spokane County, over half of all pregnancies are unplanned, according to the Unintended Pregnancy in Spokane County report (pdf), compiled in 2002. This program works to improve knowledge about unintended pregnancy, contraception and reproductive health, while strengthening community links between programs and agencies.
