Quit Programs

A variety of free services and tools are available to adults, youth, businesses and health care providers to help tobacco users quit smoking. You Can Quit Smoking: Resources for Success in Spokane County (PDF) lists some of these community resources.

  • Classes – Free classes are available to anyone (adults and youth) who wants to quit using tobacco. The classes begin weekly at different locations throughout Spokane County. The classes are coordinated through Community Health Education and Resources (CHER) with financial support from the Spokane Regional Health District. Call (509) 232-8138 for class information.

  • Healthcare Provider Training – Area health care providers receive training to implement brief interventions to help their patients quit tobacco. The training is provided by public health professionals and includes research on the health impacts of tobacco use and information about local quit smoking resources. Call (509) 324-1504 to schedule a training session.

  • Quit Line – The quit line is free, available to anyone who needs it, and, most importantly, it works. Research shows that using quit line services improves the success of people trying to quit by almost 20 percent. The quit line's highly trained specialists provide each caller with individual support, including advice on creating a customized quit plan and skills designed to break old habits. Call the Tobacco Quit Line toll-free at: 1-800-QUIT-NOW; 1-877-2 NO FUME (Spanish line); or 1-877-777-6534 (hearing impaired).

  • Workplace Programs – The Spokane Regional Health District works with local employers, the Inland Northwest Business Coalition and other community partners to create and offer effective workplace quit smoking programs. Call 324-1530 for more information.
