Brush Up on Healthy Teeth

Brush Up on Healthy Teeth!
February is Children’s Dental Health Month

Here are tips to help your kids be cavity-free!

  1. Drink water between meals. Milk, juices, and other drinks contain sugar. Sipping on sugary beverages between meals is a major cause of cavities. Limit these beverages to meal times.
  2. Encourage your children to eat regular nutritious meals and to avoid frequent between-meal snacking.
  3. Take your child for a dental check up by their first birthday, and then as recommended by your dentist.
  4. Protect your child’s teeth with fluoride. If your drinking water is not fluoridated, talk to a dentist or physician about the best way to protect your child’s teeth.
  5. Use fluoridated toothpaste, putting only a pea-sized amount on your child’s toothbrush. Brush your child’s teeth for them - twice a day - until they are old enough to get all their teeth really clean on their own. Don’t forget about flossing!
  6. Talk to your child’s dentist about dental sealants, which protect teeth from decay.
  7. Also... Make sure your child wears a helmet when bicycling and uses protective headgear and mouth guards in other sports activities.
